Mother’s Day Poem
[during COVID-19]

Hey mom, Happy Mother’s Day,
I hope you’re doing well.
I hope you’re staying healthy
amidst this corona hell.
I hope you’re staying busy,
hope you resist the urge to flee,
hope you’re stocked up on canned goods,
Clorox wipes, and plenty of TP.
I hope you’re catching up
on all those Netflix shows:
Tiger King, Ozark, and the Sopranos.
I hope you don’t catch the Rona,
or rather I hope it don’t catch you.
I hope when you’re in public,
people cover their “Ah-Choo”s!
Please don’t ingest any disinfectant,
no swallowing the bleach
If you’re tempted, just tell dad,
he’ll put it out of reach.
I know these times are strange,
uncertain, and unkind,
but there’s nothing like a robust cabernet
keep it off your mind.
I live pretty far away, in a city full of sick;
lucky I know how to stay immune,
just find a subway pole to lick!
That’s why I didn’t come to visit
on this Mother’s Day,
didn’t want to bring the virus to your door,
I’d rather stay away.
I hope they hurry up and come up with a real vaccine
and I hope your day is special
even during COVID 19.
